In the ongoing attribute war of videoconferencing applications, Google Meet is shifting attention to, well, you by overhauling its interface in addition to offering AI-powered autozoom and low-light features in the coming weeks and months.

Google Meet, which became a part of Google Workspace in October, sits alongside Google Classroom among the very popular solutions for education alongside Zoom and Microsoft Teams. In June 2020, Meet additional custom backgrounds, a”raise hand” feature, and a larger gallery perspective; this past February, it included muting and”end meeting” purposes, among others.¬†

Now, Google says that it intends to revamp the Meet UI to minimize the UI and optimize the space that player windows take up. There’s one exception: some children –mine one of thembecome anxious when seeing themselves on screen, and Meet is letting them hide their very own video window entirely.

In general, however, the idea behind the revamped Meet UI would be to push participant movie to the forefront. And Google is going to steal a page from Zoom, which has allowed users to create custom wallpapers –with static images¬†and movie –for years. Meet on Android and iOS enables custom movie backgrounds in the forthcoming weeks, with options including a forest and a celebration.
