Someone — or potentially multiple thirds — are having a really, actually bad day in Mediatonic HQ, as the latest patch for Fall Guys contained… their entire source code. Oops.
As you can see on SteamDB, a website which monitors changes to Steam’s database, Fall Guys was updated with a whole lot of new changes, but those changes included a new folder called — and we’re not joking here –“BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame“.
Why is it bad if a game’s source code gets leaked? It makes it a lot easier for hackers to get in, and either make the game a nightmare for different players, or work out how to provide themselves items, currency, etc. Nevertheless, it’s also Mediatonic’s secret sauce recipe. By massaging it, they have given people the ingredients into the proprietary combination of spices and herbs that make Fall Guys work.
But, naturally, Mediatonic have done damage management, and the source code has already been deleted. Since it was pointed out in people, however, on Twitter (and now news sites), it is highly likely that people already have it, and could possibly distribute it further.
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will probably be coming into the Nintendo Switch a while after this summer — presumably free of folders that Mediatonic should not ship with the match.
