BEIJING (AP) — The dusty, rugged Martian surface and also a Chinese rover and lander bearing small national flags were observed in photos released Friday that the rover took on the red planet.

The four movies released by the China National Space Administration also demonstrate the top stage of the Zhurong rover and the opinion from the rover before it rolled off its stage.

Zhurong put a remote camera roughly 10 meters (33 ft ) from the landing stage, then withdrew to have a group portrait, the CNSA explained.

China landed the Tianwen-1 spacecraft carrying the rover on Mars a month later it spent approximately three weeks orbiting the red planet. China is the next country to land and operate a spacecraft on Mars, following the United States.

The orbiter and lander both display small Chinese flags and the lander has summarizes of their mascots for its 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The six-wheeled rover is an area called Utopia Planitia, especially searching for signs of water or ice which could lend clues as to whether Mars ever sustained life.
