Toyota Supra buyers won’t be relegated to the choice of only an automatic transmission much longer. Roadshow confirms that the Supra will be offered a manual transmission this year. The Drive was first reported by the news, citing a source at a dealership on Wednesday.

It’s not clear what other changes Toyota might make to the Supra this model year, but a clutch pedal could be one. It’s what the Supra needs in order to succeed. It could be — but that’s up to the drivers to decide and vote with their purchase orders. The Supra’s top-of-the-line model features a BMW-sourced turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline six and an eight speed automatic. A 2.0-liter turbo-four serves as a gateway model. Although it is not yet clear whether the manual will be made available for both engines or not, there are all indications that “yes”. While a manual won’t sway anyone who believes the Supra’s just a BMW Z4 with a makeover, its addition should at least delight those in favor of rowing their own gears to have some extra fun. A Toyota spokesperson declined comment to discuss a future product.

A Supra equipped with a manual transmission isn’t the only exciting news Toyota has in store.
