Urijah Fabers Argument for Conor McGregor Over Michael Chandler Conors Power and Precision Will Be Too Much
Urijah Faber is no stranger to the octagon, having spent over a decade in the UFC competing and coaching on The Ultimate Fighter. So when he gives his opinion on Conor McGregor’s upcoming fight against Michael Chandler, it’s certainly worth taking note.
The two will be meeting later in 2021, and judging by the hype it promises to be an entertaining affair. While nobody can predict the outcome with any certainty, Faber believes that McGregor has what it takes to get the job done.
“Traditionally in the past – you know, old-school MMA – I would have said the high-level wrestler’s always going to win,” Faber said. “But Conor McGregor’s so fast and explosive and technical in all of his movement that I think he’s got a great chance against Michael Chandler.”
McGregor himself has spoken highly of Chandler, calling him the most dangerous lightweight champion in UFC history and saying that he doesn’t believe anyone else would have been able to beat Benson Henderson for the title. So it’s clear that he’s not underestimating the former Bellator champ.
But if Faber’s opinion is anything to go by, then it looks like McGregor is set up for success. Nobody knows how well the Irishman will fare after such a prolonged period of inactivity, but with his trademark speed, unorthodox striking, and tremendous power, he has the tools to make it difficult for Chandler.
And at the end of the day, that’s all that matters in an MMA fight. No matter what the record books say or who the odds are stacked against, the most important factor is which fighter is the better prepared and can execute their game plan more effectively.
When the time comes, Urijah Faber thinks Conor McGregor has enough in his locker to come out on top. That’s definitely a viewpoint that shouldn’t be dismissed. We’ll just have to wait and see if he’s right.
