When Dricus Du Plessis announced he was accepting a fight with Robert Whittaker as opposed to Israel Adesanya, many MMA fans were surprised. However, Du Plessis himself believes that Whittaker will be the harder fight for him than Adesanya.

Du Plessis’ recent statement that Whittaker will be the tougher fight is actually backed up by a few factors. Firstly, Whittaker is an incredibly experienced fighter who has gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in the sport - including Adesanya himself. Whittaker has also been a UFC Middleweight champion and he is not someone to take lightly.

On the other hand, Adesanya does possess some impressive technical skills. He has made quick work of his opponents in the past and is known for his flashy striking style. However, despite Adesanya’s impressive record, he is still relatively inexperienced in the Octagon and may not be as prepared as Whittaker to go the distance.

Therefore, it makes sense why Du Plessis believes that Whittaker is a harder fight. Whittaker is an experienced champion who has seen and done it all. His psychological strength, as well as his skill set, make him a formidable opponent.

So, what do we make of Du Plessis’ statement? Ultimately, it seems like the South African fighter knows what he’s up against. He is aware of the challenge that lies ahead and he’s eager to step up to the plate and prove himself. It remains to be seen if Du Plessis will have the necessary tools to take on Whittaker and come out on top, but one thing is for certain - it’s going to be an interesting fight.
